Christmas Cards for Prisoners
In this season of joy at our Savior’s birth and of celebration with family and friends, we ask that you bear in mind our imprisoned fellow parishioners and participants in the Catholic group at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution and other nearby prisons. If you would send them a Christmas card, the gesture would be tremendously appreciated.
"Thank you all so very much for the wonderful cards and prayers that you have sent to me this year. They were very much appreciated. Deacon James does a wonderful job sharing with you about life in prison but it is hard to explain to anyone the stark reality that with my family having mostly passed on, the cards that I received from Holy Family Ministries and Fr. Bruce were the only ones that I received this year. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you."
Vic, December 2020 letter to Holy Family
You can write them at:

Before writing your cards, please keep in mind the following:
- Youth and children under the age of 18 are welcome to participate along with their families or Religious Formation classes.
- Please don't add anything to the cards – i.e. photos, stickers, labels, money, stamps, gifts, etc.
- Most of these inmates have been more isolated than usual during the pandemic. They have not had visitors, prayer services, Mass, or communion since March.
- When you write your cards, remember that these men and women will welcome any notes of encouragement or prayer that go beyond the standard "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year." A card from a stranger means the world to them because it reminds them of their identity as God's sons and daughters at a time when they may be feeling very much alone and forgotten. If you are comfortable doing so, introduce yourself and say a little about what you do. Tell them if you are a part of a ministry — i.e., Young Adults, Prayer Chain or Men's Club. Let them know you will be praying for them. Offer words of encouragement. These are only suggestions. Do what you are comfortable with.
Again, many thanks for sharing a message of hope with our imprisoned brothers and sisters!
