The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring the Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest.

Who can participate: The essay contest is open to any Catholic student (public, private, or parochial school) in eighth to 12th grade. Parental consent must be given in the entry form to be eligible.

Essay Topic: In a typed 500-750 word essay, describe everyday obstacles that you may have experienced or witnessed others experiencing while living a life of authentic faith. Explain how you have overcome these obstacles and how, by doing so, it has helped your faith to continue to grow.

Essay Guidelines: The essay must reflect the assigned topic and be the student's original work. The essay must be typed and between 500 – 750 words. The student's name should appear only on the entry form, which must be stapled to the essay. All entries become property of the Knights of Columbus and will not be returned.

Judging Criteria: Judging will be done by a three person committee and will be based on the following: Content (35 points), Grammar (30 points), and Style (35 points). The judges' scoring will be final. In case of a tie, the final decision will be made by Grand Knight of Council 15324. All entrants will receive a certificate and be featured in the church bulletin.

Essay Deadline: Submit the entry form and essay by December 12 to Carol in the parish office.

Winning Prize: One winner from Holy Family will receive a $100 American Express gift certificate. The winner's essay will also be sent to be judged to the district level, then possibly the state level and the international level.
